Importer Testing Program For Fish Species ID
Importers can test with AFT in a number of different ways, depending on the Importer's needs. If the fish are being purchased from foreign aquaculture, the importer can obtain one representative fillet per 5,000 lbs. from the aquaculture farmer and test before importing. From foreign shipments of wild-caught fish, importers can add an agreement to their purchase contract to be obligated to purchase the fish only if the fish species is verified by AFT. The testing can be performed before the container is shipped to the US and can provide the importer with knowledge about their purchase before taking any risks associated with mislabeled fish.
