Why AFT?
Applied Food Technologies (AFT) offers the only DNA-based species identification service for seafood which meets FDA and other regulatory agencies' standards. Regulators do not believe that the GenBank data are sufficiently accurate to use as the basis for a regulatory action, such as providing validated evidentiary support to prove species substitution during a criminal prosecution.* Unlike other service providers who use public databases like GenBank, only AFT uses a validated reference database to insure the DNA sequence of the species identified is compared to that of a taxonomically confirmed reference standard. AFT has been performing species identification work for the better part of a decade. Our clients include the Federal agencies, state agencies, distributors, retailers, grocery store chains, and restaurants, among others.
